Ayatollah, leave those kids alone

Die iranisch/kanadische Band “Blurred Vision” hat in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Regisseur Babak Payami den Pink Floyd-Hit “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” neu aufgenommen. In dem Musikvideo, das beim Londoner Soho-Kurzfilmfestival präsentiert wird, sind Aufnahmen von Polizeieinsätzen gegen gegen Demonstranten in Teheran zu sehen. Pink Floyd-Bassist Roger Waters, der das Lied komponierte, unterstützt das Projekt.

Bandmitglied Sepp, der aus Rücksicht auf Verwandte im Iran seinen Nachnamen nicht nennen will, sagte zum “Guardian”, die 1979 aufgenommene Originalversion von “Another Brick in the Wall” sei wegen ihrer antiautoritären Message “eine Art Untergrund-Hymne im Iran”. Die beiden im Iran geborenen Musiker, die nach der islamischen Revolution 1979 nach Kanada flohen, wollen die Einnahmen aus dem Verkauf des Songs auf Apples Musikportal iTunes der Menschenrechtsorganisation amnesty international zur Verfügung stellen. Independent: “We were initially worried that people might get angry,” admits Sepp. “Hell, I’d get angry if anyone tried to top Pink Floyd. But the lyrics seemed to fit Iran so perfectly.”

The pair began by recording the song and sending it to Roger Waters, one of Pink Floyd’s founders. “We didn’t want to do it without his approval, but he emailed back right away and said: ‘From here on in, that version of the song is yours.'”

The band now have high hopes that their single will inspire Iranian protesters as it once did in South Africa when anti-apartheid activists used Waters’ anthem to demonstrate against racial segregation in schools.
