Bühnentechniker Alan Styles ist tot

Am 9. Dezember starb der ehemalige Pink Floyd Roadie Alan Styles, von Januar 1969 bis Dezember 1971 als Stage-Technician bei Pink Floyd, im Alter von 75 Jahren an einer Lungenentzündung.

Alan Styles wurde am 5. Oktober 1936 in Cambridge geboren. Er und David Gilmour kannten sich seit frühester Jugend. Nach dem Schulbesuch ging Styles zur Royal Navy und war dort für die körperliche Fitness der Soldaten zuständig! Gilmour fragte ihn in den späten 60ern, ob er als Roadie für Pink Floyd arbeiten möchte. Styles sagte, zu und war, von da an für die Ausrüstung der Band verantwortlich.

Die Band blieb auch nach Styles Abschied von Pink Floyd Zeit in Kontakt mit ihm. Man besuchte ihn während der Momentary-Lapse-USA-Tour und lud ihn ein. Zwei Wochen begleitete Styles seine Pink Floyd Freunde.

Styles Sohn sagte: “Gilmour visited Sausalito in the late 1980s while Pink Floyd was on tour, found his old friend, and he hung out with the band for two weeks.”

Nick Mason hat sich jetzt auf Facebook über seinen Freund und ehemaligen Pink Floyd Angestellten geäußert.

NICK MASON: Alan was a great character, and we remained friends long after he stopped working for us – I remember meeting up with him in Sausalito just across from Sam Francisco when he was living on a house boat…In an pre computer era I imaging he had never bothered with any immigration formalities, as I have no idea what he described his occupation as …

Alan looked exactly how a roadie should look. Never a boffin, he was the one who looked far more like a rock star than any of the band themselves. Ex army P.T instructor I think, no bass bin too heavy, and no need to take any lip from oiks making fun of his long hair.

And no residue of irritation on our part. Alan didn’t fiddle the expenses, get drunk, do too many drugs, or talk too much. Somewhere there is a silent movie made on the slopes of Grouse mountain in Vancouver. The Ballad of robin Hewed’ it stars Alan, along with the rest of us. Written directed and shot by the band using the our brand new super 8 cine cameras bought in Tokyo…

Sehr schöne und anerkennende Worte von Mason. Diesen Stummfilm “The Ballad of Robin Hewed” den die Band, mit ihren neuen japanischen Kameras in den Hügeln von Vancouver, mit ihm gedreht hat, denn würden wir auch gerne sehen! Er ist der Alan, dessen Schilderungen über die Zubereitung seines Frühstücks, bei Alans Psychedelic Breakfast zu hören sind. Er ist gemeinsam mit Pete Watts auf der Rückseite von “Ummagumma” verewigt.
