Choreograf Roland Petit gestorben

Eine traurige Nachricht: Roland Petit, der französische Choreograf, starb am 10. Juli 2011 im Alter von 87 Jahren. Petit’s erstes Pink Floyd Ballett feierte 1972 in Marseille Premiere. Mehr als 32.000 Besucher wollten die Tanz-Rock-Kombination sehen.

ROLAND PETIT: It all began in the late ’60s. One day, my daughter, who must have been about 10 years old at the time, gave me an album by Pink Floyd and said, ‘Dad, you have to make a ballet with this music. It’s the best!’
At first I was hesitant, but when I heard the music, I agreed with my daughter. So, I went to England and met with Pink Floyd in person. I told them about my idea of making a ballet with their music and asked if they would agree. They were so enthusiastic about the idea that they even offered to play live at the world premiere!

Das ist eine sehr traurige Nacricht, auch wenn er ein gesegnetes Alter erreicht hat.
Ich bin zwar kein Fan vom klassischen Ballett, aber von Erfindungsgeist und Kreativität. Was er damals mit Pink Floyd gemacht hat war schon sehr gewagt und sehr interessant, aber leider ist dieses Experiment ja schon in einem sehr frühen Stadium abgebrochen worden.
Das dürfte wohl daran liegen, das weder die Pink Floyd Fans auf ihre Kosten kamen bei einem 40 minütigen Auftritt, noch die Anhänger des klassischen Balletts, die hier mit “untanzbarer” Musik konfrontiert wurden (man vergleiche Careful oder Echoes mit Schwanensee oder Nussknackersuite…).
