Julián, on the way to fulfil a dream: David Gilmour, Royal Albert Hall 9 & 10/10/2024!
Von Julián David Tezanos
Where to start? It is difficult for me to try to relate what it means to have been able to fulfil the dream of seeing David play at the Royal Albert Hall.
I had tried this madness of travelling from where I live in the city of Cordoba – Argentina to London or Pompeii in 2016 with Rattle That Lock (the previous tour). But I remember how impossible it was to get tickets. I remember standing in the virtual queues and trying repeatedly to get a ticket but it was desperate to see how they were sold out before I managed to complete a successful purchase. In the midst of the chaos I picked up the phone and called the Royal Albert Hall directly and they told me that there were no more tickets available but that they recommended that I become a member to access the pre-sales.
BUENOS AIRES, 2015
Anyway, fortunately for me, after the disappointment that had caused me the impossibility of getting a ticket for those dates, the world tour was announced which included a David Gilmour show in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. I was able to attend the concert and I share with you some photos I was able to take that night in December 2015.
However, far from being satisfied with the concert, I was more eager than ever to see another of his shows. You can imagine that from this part of the world it is very difficult to see them as often as in other places.
ROYAL ALBERT HALL, 2024
It was eight long years of waiting before a new studio album was announced and the dates that were announced at the time were only at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
At that time it was May and my heart was already beating to the rhythm of a horse racing. Drawing on my previous experience, the first thing I did was to
I became a member of the hall to get access to the ticket presale and increase my chances of getting a ticket. But even so, the day the pre-sale was enabled, chaos reigned again, it was impossible to finalise the purchase of a ticket. As I tried to finalise a transaction everything failed and the tickets I chose were no longer available and I saw again how quickly the tickets were sold out and my dream vanished through the computer screen.
But in the end the miracle happened and after hours of phone calls and emails exchanged with the Hall, I was able to get tickets for the performances on the 9th and 10th of October at the mythical Royal Albert Hall in London.
Finally I could take the first step on the way to fulfilling my dream.
It was not easy to get to London, from May to October there were some changes in my personal life. But I couldn’t miss this opportunity.
So I finally took the flight and arrived in London on the 8th of October to attend the concerts of the first two nights of the tour.
And what can I say about the experience of the two nights? The experiences were completely drenched in luck and strangeness!
I was lucky enough to meet fantastic people, hear anecdotes, share chats, music and of course good beer!
The shows were indescribable, a band that managed to flow so naturally on stage, a balanced and perfect sound, a light show from another planet and all the staging that we are used to created an atmosphere and energy so positive among those who were present that I think the musicians managed to receive the same feedback. The smiles were present in all of us who were there.
I’ll share with you some pictures I took those nights at the concerts and say goodbye until next time.
Woe betide the one who is afraid to take risks.
Because he may never be disappointed.
Nor be disappointed.
Nor suffer as those who pursue a dream.
Without a doubt, it was worth it and here’s to everyone being able to fulfil their dreams.
Thank you, Julian, for your words and photos! It was great to meet you! Let’s hope for more!
Grande, Julián! Hope you’ll get to see the man once more in BA.
