RSD 2022: Pete Townshend’s Deep End – Face The Face

Zum diesjährigen Records Store Day (Drop 1 am 24. April) erscheint von Pete Townhsend das Livealbum Face The Face. Es handelt sich um einen Mitschnitt aus dem Jahr 1986. Townshend tourte mit der Band Deep End, der neben Simon Phillips, Jody Linscott, Peter Hope-Evans, Chucho Merchan, John “Rabbit” Bundrick, the Kick Horns, fünf Sängerinnen, auch David Gilmour angehörte.

This show was recorded for the German TV series Rockpalast in Cannes in January 1986. Pete Townshend’s Deep End were touring in support of his solo concept album “White City: A Novel”. Several of the musicians that appeared on the album were featured in the line-up of the Deep End including Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour on lead guitar.

The set list has tracks from the “White City” album, other Townshend solo tracks, Who classics, David Gilmour’s song “Blue Light” and a couple of surprises.

Among players — particularly among British players — he’s incredibly highly rated — adored, I’d say. And he has a way of, of, of putting incredible feeling into everything that he does. I suppose technically, he’s very good. Uh, but that’s not the important thing. The important thing is the way that he plays.

Von Pink Floyd wird es zum Record Store Day im April nichts geben. Voivod bringen ihr Album Nothingface raus, das eine Coverversion von Astronomy Domine enthält. Das war’s dann gewesen mit Pink Floyd Verbindungen.

Townshend und Gilmour trafen sich beim Peter Green Tribut-Konzert am 25.2.2020 in London, das Mick Fleetwood für seinen Ex-Kollegen veranstaltete. Townshend holte sich damals von Polly Samson ein Autogramm! Und zu guter Letzt postete Guy Pratt vergangene Woche ein Foto, das ihn mit Townshend und dem Drummer Ged Lynch im Studio zeigt. Um welches Projekt es ging wird sich noch zeigen.
